I was looking for an old message in my inbox today and it somehow led me to stumble upon my old blog, with posts from 2006(!!)
In the early days of blogging, my posts were almost always personal, more like a journal to the world than an exercise in writing. Rereading the posts was a fun reminder of our family events of the time, down to the hilarious things my nieces and nephews used to say as young children. Some of these are kids are off in college now! (I feel so old! What is time? Who am I? Where does it all go?)
It’s easy to romanticize the past though, isn’t it? I look at these posts, and pictures of the kids when they’re little, and my heart feels squishy right to its center - my memories are thankfully happy memories. Of my sisters and I, whispering late into the summer nights, extra bedding dragged into one room for an impromptu sleepover. Of little cousins, heads bent in focus on the beach, digging the moat of a castle, pouring mudwater through, hands sticky with sand. Of lou…
