Anni, thank you for reading and caring. The news cycle is pushing this horror out of our attention but it's still happening and it's still very real.

Yes! How could I not!! I just have no words. I’m going to watch No Other Land next. Again, my thanks for helping me to learn about this. I know it is such an endeavor just to find the energy to speak up about it. Thank you for your bravery and dedication. May lasting peace come soon.

Oh, also, I have a song to share that a friend of mine wrote about the devastation in Palestine. Perhaps it will bring some comfort and solidarity.

This: “Writing is an exercise in imagination. If the system is working for you, you don’t have to imagine anything else.” WOW. I love hearing from you ever Tuesday but am sincerely hoping a few weeks go by when I don't. I'll know it's because your system is resting, settling, imagining what's next. So many nuggets to explore in this post--they'll keep me busy for weeks!

Isabel if you haven't already I am desperately begging you to read to "What Strange Paradise", which is Omar El Akkad's award-winning novel about migrants who arrive on a beach city at a Greek resort town. And then this new book we went o the . I haven't read it all the way through yet but every line I want to stop and underline. It strips everything down - all the excuses, all the names for things that make it ok for people to die.

When he said "narrative container" I thought OMG I've never even heard that phrase before but it makes so much sense! This is the scaffolding that makes their deaths "ok".

Thank you for your words, Noha and for sharing beauty, insight, and the reality of others’ lives with us. I appreciate it. I feel the dissonance you suggest in your poem. Thank you for taking the time from your own busy life and your own grief and tenderness to formulate these things in words that others (I) can connect with and keep in our hearts.

Faith, I so appreciate your comment and your generosity with these words. I see it as dumb luck, as I said in the poem, and I feel compelled to share the grief and the dissonance so that others can see it. God knows it's been shared as little as possible by mainstream media, and there's been the manufacturing of consent that this sad thing is awful but that it just has to happen. And it's up to us to push back on that. To question it and insist that there's no good reason why an entire population should have to die. Ever.

Thank you, Noha. That poem is even more breathtaking now.

I haven't made my way through all of your beautiful links yet, but the video of Suhoor. The acceptance speech. "Can't you see that we are intertwined?" 💔

Ramadan Kareem.

Right?? The speech was sending me, and the suhoor video - I don’t even know how to react anymore… I just pray for them and then I try to scream into my pillow when I hear about the next awful thing that people are doing to them…

Thank you for the Ramadan wishes too. 🙏🏽
